Why Choose Metrol Springs?
For over 35 years, we’ve been designing and manufacturing high-quality wire springs and gas struts. In this blog, we explore how our experience, engineering capabilities, and commitment to quality make us the best fit for your next project. Whether you’d like to learn more about our history, the kinds of technology we use, or the types of products we stock, this article offers further insight into why we are a popular choice for spring manufacturing.
The UK’s Largest Manufacturer of Gas Springs
As a gas strut manufacturer, we’ve built an excellent reputation as one of the leading UK suppliers in the field.
Established in 1984, Metrol Springs Limited introduced gas springs to the UK market. Since we opened our doors for business, we have developed, grown and diversified into a global company with two strategic divisions; Metrol Tooling and Metrol Motion Control. Whilst our products are designed and manufactured in the UK, we serve the global market through our distribution network in Asia, Europe, North America and Africa.
To ensure that our products achieve the highest quality and longevity, we use the Pressure Equipment Directive (PED 2014/68/EU) as our standard, offering CE and UK-CA marked products for safety compliance when needed. In addition to this as our standard, we make sure all of our springs undergo product type testing, fatigue testing, and pressure proofing as part of our process so that they’re suitable for your application.
Today, Metrol is the UK’s largest manufacturer of gas springs, and we are incredibly proud to export our quality British engineered and manufactured products around the world.
Our Rich History
From humble beginnings in Northampton, our first year of trading brought our first order, placed by Austin Rover. A move from our Abington Square base to Talbot Road in 1987 saw us officially become manufacturers.
In 1989 we went global with our distributor in South Africa. Following our success, we have created and launched a comprehensive range of gas struts, access hardware, and wire springs, catering to a vast range of sectors.

In 2020, we were delighted to become part of the Lesjöfors Group, who provide a broad range of springs and pressings to customers all across the world. The international connections facilitated by Lesjöfors, combined with our robust product processes, means that we can now meet large, small, and even custom orders.
We’re proud to be recognised as a trusted British manufacturer, working on major FIAT gas strut projects and continuing our investment programme with new CNC machinery. As supply chain concerns become more prominent in today’s economy, having a UK-based solution can help streamline operations and maintain essential quality standards for your industry.
Innovative Technology and Machinery
Our office and manufacturing provision has seen significant growth and investment in recent years. By installing automated CNC machinery, we have the efficiency to process high-quality, innovative products at competitive prices.
Our dedication to machinery investment led to us introducing automated gas spring charging and testing, including an increased capacity with a new twin gantry robotic loader from CMZ. We have also invested heavily in automated laser marking, a machine with the capacity to mark up to 200 springs per session.
We plan to keep up the momentum with our continued installation of the latest machinery and upskilling our talented engineers. Our most recent investment includes the CNC LiftArm, which helps our operators to safely and efficiently load heavy parts in and out of our CNC machines.
Thanks to our skilled team and advanced technology, we’re able to provide a broad range of products for our customers. Our range includes NitroSprings, gas struts, access hardware, Accuride slides, threaded inserts, and anti-vibration mounts. This broad range of products enables us to serve a variety of sectors, from automotive to agriculture. To view our full stock, please download our product catalogue.
