NitroSprings are designed specifically to meet the requirements and demands of your application. From simple modifications on a standard product to complete bespoke gas springs and assemblies, our products are designed to perform.
Designed and manufactured in Northampton (UK), our success in delivering gas spring projects is driven by a close working relationship with our customers to understand their requirements and issues.
Collaboration is key, from design concept through to prototype, testing and production, close cooperation and trust ensures the end product meets expectations.
We offer a huge range of design possibilities, from 100N to 40,000N force, and a stroke or travel length from 7mm to 2000mm.
The Metrol project engineering team has 125 years of collective experience in the design of industrial gas springs and delivering complex projects.
You will be assigned to a project engineer for continuity throughout the process. The design process begins by discussing and understanding the requirements of the application, product specifications, dimensions, force curves and environmental considerations. We consider functionality vs application and advise of any limitations and how they will be overcome.
Our engineers are available to travel to your site to assess the application and any issues that may influence the design of the spring.
Upon completion of the design process, a proposal is produced which includes the design, plus the benefits and features of the NitroSpring.
As part of the development process, prototypes are manufactured for new products.
Prototyping allows us to bring your ideas to life. It helps us determine what performs well under environmental and application conditions. It provides an opportunity to test fit and function, with the ability to communicate feedback so revisions can be made if necessary. Optimising the design of the spring to ensure you are fully satisfied before moving to full production.
Testing of prototypes for new gas spring products or, for different applications is critical to ensure performance and safety.
Design validation testing is performed at Metrol within our test facility. Most importantly, testing is carried out to ensure safety of the product to our strict standards and those of the Pressure Equipment Directive (PED 68/2014/EU) with CE marked gas springs. Durability and pressure testing is carried out in our controlled test environment to guarantee that the gas spring design is within the required safety margins, these are typically many times higher than the actual working parameters of the spring. For example, we are able to pressure burst test up to 1500 bar, typical maximum pressures in a compressed spring will only reach 275 bar.
Durability and performance testing is carried out to ensure the spring performs as designed and to provide complete confidence to the customer. Typically, NitroSprings are benchmarked to 1 million full compression cycles, where less than 5% gas loss would be expected.
New applications or new products can have an element of uncertainty; this is where field testing can eliminate this. Metrol engineers are on hand to help install NitroSprings or NitroSpring systems and observe initial field testing. Feedback from field trials can validate the performance or allow fine tuning of the NitroSpring to the application or environmental conditions, ensuring full satisfaction before commencing serial production and delivery.
Rest assured, the Metrol engineering team are here to support you through the complete process, from concept to delivery.
Approval of the final product allows us to move to production, whether it be a single order requirement or serial production and batch deliveries. NitroSprings are manufactured in our Northampton facility, with our team in full control of the complete process, from raw material goods received, through to final packing and shipping.
Our ISO 9001 and PED 68/2014/EU quality systems ensure that our NitroSprings are manufactured to the highest standards. Every gas spring that is shipped from our facility must undergo several tests, including, pressure, force, dimensional and leak testing, guaranteeing that the product is in perfect condition as it leaves our factory.
The Metrol logistics department work in cooperation with our customers to provide the correct type of packing and labelling. Custom stillages, pallets and boxes can be provided so that NitroSprings are delivered in perfect condition and are able to be stored safely until required.
Metrol's involvement does not end at the point of shipment, our commitment to the customer is to provide continued support in the use of our NitroSpring products. We pride ourselves in our on site engineering support, utilising our vast years of application and product experience to help assist with any issues should they occur.
Our support is global, utilising our partners in the Lesjofors group to support locally.
